The Double Gate is one of the most effective rushes of Protoss. You do sacrifice some early economy, but you can quickly get back on track if you are not able to take out the enemy quickly. It is most effective against zerg, but can be used against other Protoss-players. Be careful with Terran, as Marauders and Marines in Bunkers can quickly turn the battle in their favor.
There are some variations to this build, mainly when you are going to build the two gateways. I prefer building them on 12 and 14 supply, as this allows you to keep pumping out Probes in addition to the Zealots. You can also choose where to build your Gateways. The safest is to build them by your ramp or somewhere inside your base, but you can also use the first Pylon as a proxy and build the Gateways close to the enemy base. This will slow down the traveltime, but you expose your base to counter-attacks.
With this build you generally don’t have to cut many probes. You might have to cut a few to continually produce pylons and zealots, but when you start attacking and lose some, you will be able to continually produce probes. This allows you to transition into most other builds, and expanding if you feel it is safe.
