Critters, zerglings and roaches

This isn’t the three units you are able to begin with as zerg, or any other race in Starcraft 2, but just our title for the latest Q&A from blizzard, number 43. Short one this time, as much of the time over there are used to prepare for Leipzig GC and BlizzCon.

One question was about critters, and if they would have attack animations. As you know, Starcraft 1 did not have aggressive critters. Warcraft was the franchize that introduced this to the Blizzard RTS, and Starcraft 2 will also have critters you have to fight. This probably means that you need some forces to spread out to the first expansion bases.

The biggest answer comes when they are asked about zerg versus zerg matches, where the choice earlier was between zerglings and hydralisks. In Starcraft 2 the hydralisks will mainly be anti-air units, and the new units roaches will be the alternative to zerglings. For the full response from blizzard, check their forums.

Achievements for Blizzard Games

Blizzard said in an interview with MTV that they will be making an achievement-system that is simular to XBOX Live Achievements. How this will work with games as different as World of Warcraft, Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3, we have no idea.

So far there is allmost only information about WoW, and apparently Wrath of the Lich King-beta testers can allready now see achievements. We will come back with more information as soon as we know more about how this will be integrated into Starcraft 2. Until then check out the Ctrl+Alt+Del comic about the news.

More Q and A (#41 and #42)

There is a new Q&A post out on the SC2-forums now. This is the fortyfirst, and it has been a while since the last one. This means there is surely a lot of new information for you to check out. Unfortunatly, only six questions is answered, but a few interesting answers nonetheless.

One of the things is that Zerg defensive buildings is no longer built by the Queen, but instead by a drone, like you all know from Starcraft. There are also two buildings like we know from the first game, one that fires into the air and one groundforce-killer. No information yet about if they see stealthed units.

New Hero: Zeratul

On the Starcraft 2 site you can now find a new hero called Zeratul, and he’s a Dark Templar. He will obviously be an important part of the Starcraft 2 plotline, so if you are a lore geek, you should head over there and check him out.

Zerg Queen information

Everyone who has played Zerg know that the zerg queen from Starcraft is not as formidable and powerful as a queen should be. This is going to change in Starcraft 2, where the queen no longer will be a weak flyer, but instead a heavy base defender. Some of the abilities of the queen will be healing buildings, teleport zerg buildings, turning buildings into units that can fight and creatue units quickly when you need it (she’s a queen after all).

I’m personally looking forward to a much more active way of using the queen than what I’m doing currently in Starcraft 1.

WWI review on the Zerg

The biggest announcement of WWI has been Diablo 3, but also Starcraft 2 has gotten some attention. The folks over at Starcraft Source has written a large review of the Zerg race, which is recommended to check out.

The feel of Zerg seems to have changed a bit to become a great graphic experience, and the whole zerg-area seems to be alive. I can’t wait to get my hands on a demo or the full game myself.
